Preserving What Makes Michigan Beautiful

West Michigan Wildlife Conservancy is a registered non-profit organization formed to to safeguard imperiled wildlife and their habitats in the West Michigan

Our Mission

The West Michigan Wildlife Conservancy was formed in response to the unmitigated spread of highly destructive invasive species in West Michigan, including Hemlock Woolly Adelgid and Oriental Bittersweet. Our mission is to preserve the natural ecosystems and biodiversity of this area through conservation and pest management efforts, advocacy, and community engagement.

The West Michigan Wildlife Conservancy is registered nonprofit corporation, and currently in the process of becoming a 501(c)(3) charitable organization (delayed due to the government shutdown), and all members work purely on a volunteer basis. Our goal is to provide organizations and landowners the information and resources necessary to protect our collective natural resources through comprehensive, pragmatic and scientifically informed strategies at the community level.

Who We Are

The West Michigan Wildlife Conservancy was concieved by Holland native and Air Force officer, Alex Miller. Alex has been passionate about local environmental issues his entire life, organizing his first volunteer group to fight invasive species when he was only 16. Together, Alex, Haley Baar - fellow Holland native and environmental activist, and Michael Jaeger - West Ottawa biology teacher, volunteer organizer, and Peace Corps veteran, came together to form the West Michigan Wildlife Conservancy we know today. The goal of the organization is to draw greater attention to these problems, and to galvanize support for pragmatic strategies which will ensure that the natural beauty and biodiversity of West Michigan are preserved for generations to come.
